How is REACH connected to VOCAL Inc, the VOCAL CO-OP
and VOCAL Network?
VOCAL Inc,
(Virginia Organization of Consumers Asserting Leadership) is our parent organization. VOCAL functions within the
guidelines of the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services
(DMHMRSAS).
It is from DMHRSAS that VOCAL is funded. VOCAL, Inc.
administrates the DMHMRSAS block grant for all three of its
child programs.
The VOCAL CO-OP
offers free technical assistance to consumer-run centers
throughout Virginia. They work exclusively with programs run by
and for mental health consumers. They specialize in information and resources on how to start and run a consumer-operated program,
as well as offering helpful step-by-step instructions, useful templates, and other information.
The VOCAL Network
is connection and communication among individuals and groups.
The term "Consumer" refers to a person who has experienced
serious mental illness. The Network is developed, guided, and
staffed by Consumers. The purpose of the VOCAL Network is to
increase individual well being and allow support and information
to be exchanged, and to work with other pro-Consumer
organizations to protect rights, improve services and counter
discrimination.
REACH provides recovery
education and training to peers and providers.
VOCAL Network Education, advocacy, empowerment.
VOCAL Network, founded and run by people with mental illness, connects people to people and works to improve Virginia’s Mental Health Services. Click here to learn more about this program.
