John Otenasek was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1984. Since that time he has experienced many modes of treatment and has enjoyed a hard-fought for recovery. He has worked as a consumer-provider of direct care services since 1992, in such capacities as support staff, halfway house manager and more recently as program manager for a residential treatment facility. He moved to Virgina in May of 2005 and was hired as REACH program director of May 2007. He serves on the following Boards of Directors: HRCSB (Harrisonburg Rockingham Community Services Board), Gould Farm, Crossing Creeks, and VAPRA (Virginia Psyichiatric Rehabilitation Association). He helps lead a weekly support group in Harrisonburg, where the REACH office and his home are.
